Contexte

Wheel complex protein P24 is a ~24 kDa protein. Component of the wheel complex, part of the cytoskeleton-like structure in the attachment organelle which stabilizes the shape of the wall-less Mycoplasma. Might play a role in coordinating gliding initiation with P41 (Probable). P24 alone does not restore gliding motility or frequency to a P41-P24 disruption, but it is required for full wild-type gliding frequency and for correct initation of attachment organelle formation. The attachment organelle is involved in gliding cell motility and adhesion to host cells.
