Insect Venom Allergen Research Reagents

Hymenoptera venom allergy (bee, wasp, hornet, fire ant) is the most common cause of anaphylaxis in adults. Venom immunotherapy (VIT) is highly effective (95–98% protection rate) but requires accurate identification of the culprit insect. Double positivity to bee and wasp venom on extract-based testing is common (>50%) and often caused by cross-reactive carbohydrate determinants (CCDs) or homologous venom allergens rather than true double sensitization. Component-resolved diagnostics with recombinant species-specific markers (Api m 1 for bee, Ves v 5 for wasp) resolves this ambiguity and guides VIT prescription.

Research Use Only (RUO)Not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

abinScience provides recombinant insect venom allergen proteins and detection antibodies for Hymenoptera venom components. CCD-free recombinant allergens enable species-specific sensitization profiling. All products are manufactured by our parent company AtaGenix Laboratories under ISO quality systems. Key Venom Allergens

Api m 1 (Honeybee Phospholipase A2) — The major honeybee (Apis mellifera) venom allergen, recognized by >95% of bee venom-allergic patients. Api m 1 is the key species-specific marker for bee venom allergy — its recombinant form (CCD-free) differentiates true bee sensitization from CCD-mediated cross-reactivity with wasp venom.

Ves v 5 (Wasp Antigen 5) — The major Vespula vulgaris (yellow jacket) venom allergen. Ves v 5 is species-specific for Vespinae and does not cross-react with bee venom allergens. Combined testing of Api m 1 and Ves v 5 resolves >90% of bee-wasp double-positive cases, directly guiding single or dual VIT prescription.

Vesp c 5 (Hornet Antigen 5) — The major allergen of Vespa crabro (European hornet). Vesp c 5 cross-reacts with Ves v 5 but not with bee venom, making the Vespinae-specific Antigen 5 family a useful diagnostic group for wasp/hornet venom allergy differentiation.
