| Background | Max dimerization protein 1 (MXD1) is a ~25 kDa protein. Component of a transcriptional repressor complex together with MAX. In complex with MAX binds to the core DNA sequence 5'-CAC[GA]TG-3'. Antagonizes MYC transcriptional activity by competing with MYC for MAX binding. Binds to the TERT promoter and represses telomerase expression, possibly by interfering with MYC binding. 1. Ayer, DE. et al. (1993) Cell 72, 211-22. PMID: 8425218 2. Lin, SY. et al.
