Background

Protein CYTOSOLIC ABA RECEPTOR KINASE 1 (CARK1) is a ~39 kDa protein. Receptor-like cytoplasmic kinase (RLCK) that triggers abscisic acid (ABA) signaling in response to dehydration by phosphorylating and activating ABA receptors (e.g. PYL8/RCAR3 and PYR1/RCAR11) to support their monomerization and enhance their ABA binding affinity; they in turn repress PP2C protein phosphatases (e.g. ABI1) acting as negative regulators of ABA responses. Promotes drought tolerance.
