Background

Envelope glycoprotein D (gD) is a ~44 kDa protein. Envelope glycoprotein that binds to host cell entry receptors, promoting the virus entry into host cells. May trigger fusion with host membrane, by recruiting the fusion machinery composed of gB and gH/gL.
