| Background | Lanosterol synthase (LSS) is a ~83 kDa protein. Key enzyme in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway. Catalyzes the cyclization of (S)-2,3 oxidosqualene to lanosterol, a reaction that forms the sterol nucleus. Through the production of lanosterol may regulate lens protein aggregation and increase transparency. 1. Ruf, A. et al. (2004) Biochemical and biophysical research communications 315, 247-54.
