| Background | Ubiquitin-associated protein 2-like (UBAP2L) is a ~116 kDa protein. Recruits the ubiquitination machinery to RNA polymerase II for polyubiquitination, removal and degradation, when the transcription-coupled nucleotide excision repair (TC-NER) machinery fails to resolve DNA damage. Plays an important role in the activity of long-term repopulating hematopoietic stem cells (LT-HSCs). Is a regulator of stress granule assembly, required for their efficient formation. Required for proper brain development and neocortex lamination. 1. Bordeleau, ME. et al. (2014) Blood 124, 2362-9. PMID: 25185265 2. Jia, X. et al. (2022) Science advances 8, eabo7112.
