Stability and Storage Use a manual defrost freezer and avoid repeated freeze thaw cycles. Store at 2 to 8°C for frequent use. Store at -20 to -80°C for twelve months from the date of receipt.
Alternate NamesCLIC5, Chloride intracellular channel protein 5, EC:1.8.-.-, Glutaredoxin-like oxidoreductase CLIC5
Background

Chloride intracellular channel protein 5 is a ~46 kDa protein. In the soluble state, catalyzes glutaredoxin-like thiol disulfide exchange reactions with reduced glutathione as electron donor. Can insert into membranes and form non-selective ion channels almost equally permeable to Na(+), K(+) and Cl(-). Required for normal hearing. It is necessary for the formation of stereocilia in the inner ear and normal development of the organ of Corti. May play a role in the regulation of transepithelial ion absorption and secretion.
