| Alternate Names | HELIOS, IKZF2, Ikaros family zinc finger protein 2, ZNFN1A2, Zinc finger protein Helios |
| Background | Zinc finger protein Helios is a ~59 kDa protein. Transcription factor, which stabilizes the noninflammatory phenotype of regulatory T cells (Tregs). May possibly act via STAT5-mediated signaling. Binds IL2 promoter and represses its transcription, possibly by epigenetic silencing, inducing deacetylation of core histones in the IL2 promoter. In Tregs, required for FOXP3 recruitment to the IL2 promoter. Required for outer hair cells maturation and, consequently, for hearing. 1. Mohajeri, A. et al.
