| Background | DAN domain family member 5 (DAND5) is a ~19 kDa protein. Antagonist of the extracellular signaling protein NODAL, which is required for correct left-right patterning during embryonic development. Antagonist of BMP4 signaling. Antagonist of TGF-beta signaling. Independently of its role in left-right axis establishment, plays a role during heart development, possibly through the regulation of TGF-beta/Nodal signaling pathway. Displays anti-angiogenic activity by inhibiting endothelial sprouting, migration, and proliferation. 1. Marques, S. et al. (2004) Genes & development 18, 2342-7. PMID: 15466485 2. Araújo, AC. et al.
