Background	Transmembrane protein 87A (TMEM87A) is a ~63 kDa protein. Potential monoatomic ion channel gated by mechanical force, implicated in normal touch sensitivity through the generation of mechanically activated currents. However, a direct channel activity is debated and an alternative could be that it functions as a chaperone for an unidentified mechanosensitive ion channel. Could also be involved in cell mechanosensitivity regulating cell adhesion and migration. May also be involved in retrograde transport from endosomes to the trans-Golgi network (TGN). 1.
