| Background | Wheel complex protein P41 is a ~40 kDa protein. Stably anchors the attachment organelle to the cell body and for their spatial positioning. Required for stable accumulation of P28 (also called HMW2-s, a short protein produced by upstream MPN_310). Required for correct localization of P24. Ectopic expression of P41 restores gliding velocity but not gliding frequency to a P41-P24 disruption, attachment organelles do not initiate as frequently as in wild-type; inclusion of P24 restores a wild-type phenotype. May play a role in attachment organelle initiation and its coordination with the cell cycle (Probable). 1. Hasselbring, BM. et al. (2007) Molecular microbiology 63, 44-53. PMID: 17163973 2.
