Alternate NamesAcetylserotonin O-methyltransferase COMT, COMT, Caffeate O-methyltransferase 1, EC:2.1.1.4, EC:2.1.1.42, EC:2.1.1.68, Flavone 3'-O-methyltransferase 1, OsCOMT, OsCOMT1, OsOMT1, Quercetin 3'-O-methyltransferase 1, ROMT-9
Background

Flavone 3'-O-methyltransferase 1 is a ~39 kDa protein. Methylates OH residues of flavonoid compounds. Can methylate eriodictyol, luteolin, quercetin and taxifolin. Methylates caffeate to produce ferrulate (PubMed:21210840, Ref.16). Catalyzes the methylation of monolignols, the lignin precursors. Functions cooperatively with CAD2 in the culm internodes for the biosynthesis of monolignols.
