Marburg virus (MARV) is a filamentous, enveloped, negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus of the family Filoviridae (~19.1 kb genome), causing severe hemorrhagic fever with case fatality rates of 24–88%. The virion encodes seven structural proteins: glycoprotein (GP), nucleoprotein (NP), VP40 (matrix), VP35 (polymerase cofactor), VP30 (transcription factor), VP24 (secondary matrix), and polymerase (L). GP is the sole surface protein and the primary target for neutralizing antibodies and vaccine development, while NP is the most abundant structural protein used in diagnostic antigen-capture assays.
Research Use OnlyNot for diagnostic or therapeutic use.
abinScience offers Marburg virus reagents covering GP, NP, VP35, VP40, VP24, and VP30 — including recombinant antibodies (MR191, MR78, SAA1443), polyclonal detection antibodies, recombinant proteins (His-tagged), and sandwich ELISA kits. Manufactured by AtaGenix Laboratories (ISO 9001 & ISO 13485). Contact us for antibody pairs and bulk orders.
Glycoprotein (GP)
GP is the sole surface protein mediating viral attachment and membrane fusion. It is proteolytically cleaved into GP1 (receptor binding) and GP2 (fusion). GP is the primary immunogen for vaccine development and the target of all known neutralizing antibodies. abinScience offers recombinant GP proteins (full-length and GP1 fragment, His-tagged), neutralizing recombinant antibodies (clone MR191 and MR78, both validated for MARV neutralization), polyclonal anti-GP antibody (Cat# VK669014), and a GP ELISA Kit (Cat# VK669018) for serology and antigen detection.
Nucleoprotein (NP)
NP encapsidates the viral RNA genome and is the most abundant protein in MARV-infected cells, making it the preferred target for rapid antigen detection diagnostics. Available reagents include recombinant NP protein (His-tagged, Cat# VK660012), anti-NP recombinant antibody (clone SAA1443, Cat# VK660013), polyclonal anti-NP antibody, and an NP ELISA Kit (Cat# VK660018). VP30 (minor nucleoprotein, transcription activator) is also available as a polyclonal antibody (Cat# VK538014).
VP35
VP35 is an essential polymerase cofactor and a potent innate immune antagonist that inhibits type I interferon signaling by sequestering dsRNA. VP35 is a target for antiviral drug discovery. Available: recombinant VP35 protein (His-tagged, Cat# VK504012), recombinant anti-VP35 antibody (clone SAA1444, Cat# VK504013), and polyclonal anti-VP35 antibody (Cat# VK504014).
VP40 & VP24
VP40 is the major matrix protein that drives virion budding and is the primary determinant of MARV's characteristic filamentous morphology. VP24 serves as secondary matrix protein and inhibits interferon signaling. Available: recombinant VP40 protein (Cat# VK735012) and polyclonal antibody (Cat# VK735014), recombinant VP24 protein in two tag formats (His Cat# VK668012 and GST-His Cat# VK668022) and polyclonal antibody (Cat# VK668014).
Which antibody pair is recommended for MARV GP sandwich ELISA?
We recommend pairing the anti-GP polyclonal antibody (Cat# VK669014) as capture with the recombinant anti-GP mAb MR191 (Cat# VK669013) as detection, or using our validated GP ELISA Kit (Cat# VK669018) which includes pre-optimized antibody pairs, calibrators, and substrates.
Can I work with MARV reagents at BSL-2?
All abinScience MARV products are recombinant proteins and antibodies — no live virus or inactivated virus material. They can be handled at standard BSL-1/BSL-2 laboratory conditions.
Do you have reagents for other filoviruses?
Yes. See our complete filovirus portfolio including Zaire ebolavirus (EBOV), Sudan ebolavirus (SEBOV), Bundibugyo virus (BDBV), and Reston ebolavirus (REBOV) in the Related Reagents section below.
